What Does the Bible Tell Us about Heaven?

By heaven, do you mean I will live in the stars or something? Why can't I live here on earth for eternity?

This heaven (sky, atmosphere, stars, planets) will one day pass away. (So will earth.)-- Matthew 24:35
The heavens will be rolled up like a scroll. -- Revelation 6:14
There will be a new heaven and a new earth. -- Revelation 21:1

What does heaven look like?

New Jerusalem, the holy city, will be there. Revelation 21:2, 11-21
There is no temple there because God and Jesus are the temple. Revelation 21:22
There is no sun or moon there because God and Jesus are the light. Revelation 21:23 22:5
The nations and rulers bring their glory into heaven. Revelation 22:5

How can I be sure that I can go to heaven?

You must have your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life to enter heaven. Revelation 22:27

Here's how to have your name written in the Lamb's Book of Life:
Believe in Jesus: that He is the Son of God, born of a virgin (Luke 1:5-38 2:1-20), and that He came to earth to die on the cross (Matthew 26:36-27:66) and rose from the dead (Matthew 28:1-8) in order to pay for your sins so that you can go to heaven.
His mercy toward those who fear (honor) Him is as high as heaven is above the earth. --Psalm 103:11

Who is in heaven?

There are angels in heaven. -- Matthew 24:36
Believers in Christ have a hope laid up in heaven for them. -- Colossians 1:5
God will live in our midst. -- Revelation 21:3
The Bible mentions these specific animals - wolf, lamb, leopard, goat, calf, and lion. -- Isaiah11:6-8 Revelation 5:13

Why shouldn't I want to go to hell with my friends?

Hell was designed for the devil and his demons NOT for people. When people reject God's way that He provided to heaven (believing in His own Son, Jesus), He doesn't have another place to put them. After all, if He let them into heaven anyway, it wouldn't be heaven.
People there won't be having a party or enjoying one another. Everyone will be in eternal flaming torment.
You can't help those in hell. -- Luke 16:19-31
In heaven, God will wipe away all our tears. There will be NO death, sorrow, crying, or pain! MUCH better deal! Revelation 21:4 Isaiah 11:9
In heaven, there will be no more curse (for example: cockroaches, sin, mosquitoes...). Revelation 22:3

Won't I miss out on all the fun here?

Absolutely not! Christians know how to have more fun anyway.
God changes your heart when you believe so that you want to do what is right.
Be honest ... How fun is it to have a hangover or not recognize the person in bed with you or get addicted or get venereal disease or hide from the law ... anyway?

What else do we know about heaven?

If we don't obey God's commands, He will make the heaven as iron. In other words, he won't hear our prayers. -- Leviticus 26:19
Heaven belongs to God. -- Numbers 10:14 Psalm 115:16
God watches earth from heaven. -- Psalm 102:19
God's Word is settled in heaven. -- Psalm 119:89
There will be silence in heaven for a half an hour. -- Revelation 8:1
